Canadian Swim Patrol – Rookie

Overview

The Canadian Swim Patrol program is designed to advance swimmers beyond basic skills with three levels: Rookie, Ranger, and Star.

The Rookie Patrol focuses on enhancing front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke over 50 meters each, timed swims, and 350-meter workouts, promoting strength and efficiency while emphasizing WaterSmart® behavior. Proficiency includes swimming 25 meters of head-up front crawl or breaststroke, demonstrating stationary sculling, carrying objects using lifesaving kicks, performing surface dives, inflating clothing for buoyancy, and completing workouts and timed swims. Participants also learn first aid, including primary assessment and external bleeding care, and recognition and rescue skills, such as simulating weak and non-swimmers and targeting buoyant aids.
