National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner

Overview

The National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner certification trains candidates to teach and evaluate the National Lifeguard Program. In addition to providing National Lifeguard programming for the public, National Lifeguard Instructors also act as mentors to new lifeguard staff and provide leadership in staff in-service training.

Candidates are trained in and must demonstrate skills, knowledge and attitudes at Competency Level 3. National Lifeguard Instructors/Examiners can teach the National Lifeguard option(s) they hold.

Prerequisites

  • National Lifeguard (any option; need not be current)
  • Lifesaving Instructor & Examiner (need not be current)
Recognition

National Lifeguard Instructor certification card. Includes Examiner appointment

Currency

2 years from certification date

Recertification

National Lifeguard Instructors (NLI) play an important role in providing high quality lifeguard training to the community. The NL Instructor Recert includes a mandatory skill review, program updates and professional development sessions based on current information and aquatic research.

Prerequisites

  • National Lifeguard Instructor (within 5 years of certification date)
  • 2021 Online NL Instructor Update completed

      National Lifeguard certification card.

      Currency

      2 years from certification date
