Preschool 5 – Narwhal

Narwhal

Preschool 5 (Narwhal) is the most advanced swimming class for children aged 3 to 5 years, focusing on enhancing swimming skills and water safety. In this class, children will perform a forward roll entry while wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) and practice treading water for 10 seconds to improve balance and endurance. They will also work on submerging and holding their breath for 5 seconds and retrieving objects from the bottom in chest-deep water to build underwater confidence. While wearing a PFD, students will perform sideways entries into deep water, tread for 20 seconds, and swim or kick for 10 meters. The whip kick in a vertical position for 20 seconds wearing a PFD or using a buoyant aid will be practiced, focusing on lower body strength. The class also includes practicing the front crawl and back crawl for 5 meters each and introduces interval training with a 4 x 5-meter flutter kick on the back with 30-second rests between each set to build endurance. WaterSmart® messages are incorporated throughout the course to teach children and their parents essential water safety practices.
