Canadian Swim Patrol – Ranger

The Canadian Swim Patrol program advances swimmers with three levels: Rookie, Ranger, and Star, each building on skills for success in the Society’s Bronze medal awards.

Ranger Patrol focuses on enhancing front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke over 75 meters each, performing a 100-meter lifesaving medley, and timed 200-meter swims. Proficiency includes demonstrating forward and backward somersaults in the water, stride entries with head-up front crawl or breaststroke, and 25 meters of eggbeater kick on the back. Swimmers must support a 2.3 kg object for at least 1 minute, perform head-up approaches and underwater swims, and demonstrate assisted removal of a conscious victim. First aid training covers primary assessment of an unconscious, breathing victim, emergency care for shock, and treatment of an obstructed airway. For recognition and rescue, participants simulate and identify weak swimmers, non-swimmers, and unconscious victims, perform non-contact rescues using a buoyant aid, and follow up with appropriate procedures.
