SCOPE

Recreation Surrey has been offering residents diverse recreational spaces and programs to meet the needs of our communities. Utilizing the City’s gyms, pools, multi-purpose rooms, and fitness spaces to offer a wide range of programs including preschools, after-school programs, fitness, aquatics, senior services, and many more, in the form of drop-ins, register programs and special events. Our recreation facilities aim to keep our residents healthy, active, and engaged.

We’re currently looking for a Community Service Coordinator 2 for our recreation facilities to help deliver our wide range of programs. We are looking for the most qualified candidate who is versatile and flexible, and the portfolio will be determined based on the skills and knowledge of the successful candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We’re looking for a positive leader who has a strong foundation and experience in creating and delivering recreation and sport programming in a range of community settings. You will lead staff and coordinate with other stakeholders to create and implement programs for a wide range of audiences, each with specific needs. You will oversee programming and facility operations ensuring safe, clean and welcoming spaces for residents.

• Planning and implementing a diverse range of programs.

• Following safety processes to identify and correct unsafe conditions around the recreation facility, including equipment and program activity safety, including licensing requirements.

• Developing and administering annual budgets and grants including revenues and expenditures.

• Preparing reports as required including budget, operations and grants.

• Working collaboratively with community stakeholders to enhance program and service delivery and offerings.
•Recruiting, supervising, and training staff and volunteers.
 

Overseeing facility maintenance and operations/ training, scheduling, and overall maintenance of assets, including licensed program spaces.


QUALIFICATIONS

•Graduated from a recognized university or college level program.

•4 years of progressively responsible experience in the delivery of recreation services or community development work.

•An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must have technical expertise applicable to the specific role.

•A good understanding of community recreation programs, their purpose and objectives.

•A community mindset and be successful in establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with partners and other stakeholders.

The Bulkley Valley Regional Pool & Recreation Centre is a community recreation centre like no other! Built and operated by the not-for-profit Bulkley Valley Aquatic Centre Management Society the recreation centre features a 4-lane 25m main pool, leisure lagoon, tot pool, 25-person hot tub, sauna, fitness studio, indoor rock climbing wall and squash/racquetball courts.

 

 We are located in the beautiful town of Smithers in northwestern British Columbia. Pedalheads Swim is looking for part-time Lesson Supervisors in Metro Vancouver. Wages starting at $22.00 to $26.00 depending on experience. 

 

The Lesson Supervisor/Instructor will direct and supervise students, staff, programs, and oversee pool facilities in cooperation with the Swim Management Team. The position will be scheduled with a mix of lesson supervising and teaching shifts and will be responsible for the general safety and security of all staff, students, and guests in attendance at the pool(s). The Lesson Supervisor/Instructor will have opportunities to assist with administration, equipment, and training, as directed by the Swim Management Team. 

 

Duties 

  • Provides the quality of service expected by Pedalheads Swim through the promotion of instructional and safety services.
  • Provides effective, professional customer service and is familiar with all Pedalheads Swim programs. Provides information to the public in a polite and helpful manner.
  • Mentors swim instructors and provides feedback on performance.
  • Monitors and ensures program and safety standards are being followed.
  • On-deck and readily available to assist when required. Prepared to fill in for instructors when required (e.g. due to illness or absence).
  • Ensures classes start and end on time and progressive evaluations are being completed on all students.
  • Reports, updates, and advises the Aquatics Manager and Management Team of customer feedback, staffing items, and program activities.
  • Performs first aid and coordinates rescues at the pool. Ensures required follow-up is accurate and complete.
  • Attends, assists with, and successfully completes any meetings, clinics, and training sessions as required.
  • Reports any health and safety hazards in or around the facility to the Aquatics Manager.

 

Qualifications 

  • Prior experience in aquatics as a Swim Instructor and/or Lifeguard. Supervisory experience an asset.
  • Willing to go the extra mile to engage with customers and provide excellent customer service.
  • Friendly, outgoing, approachable, and positive!
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Weekend and evening work will be required.
  • Criminal record check required.

 

Certifications 

  • Swim For Life Instructor Certification
  • Lifesaving Society NL-Pool Option
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C
  • Lifesaving Instructor (recommended but not required)

Hours 

  • 8 hours per week
  • Regular weekday evenings and weekends
