Nature & Scope:
The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.
Major Responsibilities:

NWRSC Kin Pool Manager
The Nanaimo White Rapids Summer Swim Club is a large youth swim club and a member of the BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA). This family-centered youth swim club fosters social and skill development focusing on each athlete's personal best in a safe and fun community-based program. The Kin Pool in Bowen Park, Nanaimo BC is a city-owned, outdoor 6-lane, 25m pool and the official home of the Nanaimo White Rapids. The Club operates the Kin Pool in a co-management agreement with the City of Nanaimo between May 1st and September 30th. The co-management agreement includes a framework for providing public programming and swim club operations.
The Pool Manager is an integral member of the Leadership Team and works alongside the Head Coach. The Pool Manager is largely responsible for the Kin Pool facility's operation and all public programming. The Leadership Team also includes senior coaches and senior lifeguards. The Pool Manager is accountable to the NWRSC Board and must have exceptional communication and leadership skills. They must consistently show strong interpersonal skills, clear written and verbal communication, problem solving skills, and mentorship abilities. The successful candidate must also exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The Pool Manager must possess an enthusiastic and positive attitude in following and demonstrating the Mission Statement of the NWRSC.
In consultation with the NWRSC Board of Director and Executive Coordinator, the Pool Manager will be responsible for laying out the season plan for all public programming as well as hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising the lifeguards and instructors for school lessons and rentals, public lessons community rentals, as well as scheduling appropriate lifeguard coverage for swim club activities. This position also involves ensuring that the facility is properly maintained and that the pool itself remains in compliance with all relevant regulations.
The Pool Manager is an hourly position, 20-30 hours per week from mid-April to end of September, with the possibility of continuing part time (5-10 hours/ week) throughout the remainder of the calendar year. Hours will fluctuate according to requirements of summer pool season.

Lifeguard - Part Time & Casual
The District of Summerland is seeking 3 permanent part-time Lifeguard / Instructor I’s and would consider casual lifeguards with high availability. These Lifeguards would provide lifeguarding and aquatic instruction at the Summerland Aquatic & Fitness Centre. Interested applicants should enjoy working with the public, can adapt to an ever-changing work environment to meet the demands of the job, and have a flexible schedule. All required certifications must be current, and copies of certifications will be required.
The ideal candidates will be dependable, motivated, team-players with a positive attitude and excellent communication and customer service skills. They must also be a strong swimmer, in excellent physical condition and have the ability to effectively control large groups of people of all ages.
Part-Time: To stay current in procedures, equipment, and lifeguarding, the successful candidates will be available for a minimum commitment of 12 hours per week from September to June, and a combined minimum of 40 hours for the months of July and August, pending schedule availability.
Casual: Casual Lifeguards must be available for a minimum of 25 hours for each 6-month period (January – June and July – December).
The shift schedule is varied and may include hours between 5:45am – 10:00pm weekdays and 8:15am through 7:30pm on weekends. This is a union position (CUPE 1136), and the hourly wage is $29.04 plus 15% in lieu of benefits.

NWRSC Executive Coordinator

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 15 years or age
Current National Lifeguard certificate (Lifesaving Society)- Pool Option (with valid recertification)
CPR C with AED (with valid recertification)
Standard First Aid (with valid recertification)
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Pool Operators- Level 1 and 2 (RFABC courses)
WHMIS
Lifesaving Aquatic Supervisor Training/ Certification
Supervision Evaluation and Enhancement (SEE course)
Water Safety Instructor (or equivalent experience)
*Copies of Certifications will be required at interview*
HOURS OF WORK:
Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends and evenings.
Positions may be part time or full time.
RATE OF PAY:
All lifeguards will be paid hourly; wages will begin at 20$/hour, and rates will be scaled to reflect previous experience and expertise. Hourly rates will be discussed with each applicant following the interview process.
