Outreach Teams
The Lifesaving Society of BC & Yukon promotes their messages of safety on the water through community outreach. The WaterWise Safety Team travels the province providing interactive school presentations, community event presence and media interviews to help prevent drowning and provide water safety training.
Two AdventureSmart teams provide similar outreach education with a focus on outdoor safety, with teams active both in summer and winter, one is based in the Lower Mainland and a second team in the BC interior. Their mandate is to decrease the number and severity of search and rescue callouts.
WaterWise Team
Reaching over 1 million people each summer and keeping children safe during the high risk season, the Team travels widely to provide free boat and water safety education to the public through school presentations to promote child safety, high profile and community events, marina visits, seminars, as well as media coverage. Part of their job is giving presentations to school-aged children throughout British Columbia via the WaterWise Wisdom Program, which has been developed to promote child drowning prevention and general water safety. Be WaterWise. Follow their journey on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram via @WaterWiseTeam. You can book the Team for your school or event via the link below or by contacting waterwiseteam@lifesaving.bc.ca, and remember:
PREPARE IT, WEAR IT, KNOW IT, SHARE IT!
AdventureSmart Team
Promoting fun and outdoor recreation, AdventureSmart balances key safety messages with an individual’s responsibility for safety; encouraging the public to obtain the knowledge, skills and equipment necessary for them to “get informed and go outdoors”. AdventureSmart combines online and on-site awareness with targeted outreach to reduce the number and severity of search and rescue (SAR) incidents. Be AdventureSmart. Whether your activity is during the summer or winter, on land or water, anywhere in Canada; remember the three T’s and follow these simple steps:
Trip Planning, Training and Taking the Essentials.
